How do I get a refund?

If you (i) entered into a Direct Energy natural gas supply contract showing that you are not subject to automatic renewal provisions; (ii) did not consent to a renewal or new contract; and (iii) in fact had your Direct Energy supply contract renewed, paid higher rates to Direct Energy as a result, and possibly paid early termination fees to exit this renewal contract, then you are entitled to a refund from Direct Energy.

I would recommend sending a registered letter directly to the Office of the President of Direct Energy.  In this letter I would enclose a copy of your original contract with Direct Energy / Enbridge Home Services, along with a note describing how your contract was renewed without your consent and requesting (a) a full refund of the difference between the rates charged by Direct Energy and the rates which would have been charged by your gas distribution company from the time your original contract expired to the present, or when Direct Energy was removed as the gas supplier, if this has occurred, and (b) a full refund of any administrative and early termination fees and taxes paid to cancel this contract.

I have put up this information as a public service, and feel it is only just that Direct Energy be made to live up to its legal obligations, especially as Direct Energy has no qualms about enforcing contracts which are written in its favour.  I'd appreciate it if those I've helped would donate a percentage of their refunds to support this site.  Though unfortunately I don't have time to assist everyone who is encountering problems with Direct Energy, individuals who would like my personal assistance in obtaining refunds from Direct Energy for wrongly renewed natural gas supply contracts are welcome to contact me at directenergyrefunds@gmail.com.
